HISTORY AND INTERPRETATION

  • Programs and Guided Tours : The park offers some scheduled programs throughout the year. Please check our program listings for more information. Programs are also offered by request. Please email the park, if you would like to schedule a program.

  • African American History : Aiken State Park was built during the Great Depression by an African American detachment of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Interpretive signage throughout the park tells their story, and their work can still be seen in some of the park’s original structures and features.

  • Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) : Yes
  • When & How PRT Acquired : Purchased in 1934 from various owners.
