Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Owners will be asked to remove noisy or dangerous pets or pets that threaten or harass wildlife. Pets are not allowed in or around lodging facilities.

Things To Do

  • Fishing Information: Enjoy fishing in the Edisto River for bream, redbreast and catfish. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.

  • Tackle Loaner Program: This park participates in the Tackle Loaner Program sponsored by the SC Dept. of Natural Resources. Rods and reels are available for loan at the park office.

  • Fishing: Yes
  • Freshwater Fishing: Yes
  • Boating and Boat Access: Access on the Edisto River is available at a drop off area. A boat ramp is 1/4 mile from park.

    A canoe trail between Colleton and Givhans Ferry is 21 miles by river and 15 miles by highway. Seven to nine hours paddling time is required for the full distance depending on current.

  • Paddling: Yes
  • Wireless Internet Access: Complimentary wi-fi is available at the office at Colleton State Park. Please see a park ranger for password information.

  • Playground Equipment: Yes
  • Park Store/Gift Shop: A small retail area is located within the Ranger Station. Items for sale include tshirts, caps, mugs, ice and soft drinks.

  • Picnic Shelters: Yes
  • Swimming: Swimming is permitted in the Edisto River at your own risk. There are no lifeguards on duty and no designated swimming area.

  • Bird Watching: Bird watching is a popular activity at the park. Birds are best viewed along the river or Cypress Swamp Trail.

  • Geocaching: Geocaching is permitted. Several geocaches are located on the park. For more information visit the official geocaching website.

  • Biking: Yes
  • Birding: Yes
  • Other Facilities and Activities: The park has a ballfield and volleyball area for use by park visitors. Board games and equipment for outdoor games are also available for checkout from the Ranger Station.

  • Interpretive Trails: The Cypress Swamp Trail is a 0.3-mile self-interpretive walking trail. Download the trail brochure.
  • Biking Trails: Biking is permitted on the park roads but not on the interpretive trail.

  • Hiking: Yes
