PARK ADVISORY

Due to recent damage caused by a Southern Pine Beetle infestation within the park, intensive forest management will be necessary over the coming weeks. Logging crews will be working from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday. Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Owners will be asked to remove noisy or dangerous pets or pets that threaten or harass wildlife.

Unique Features

  • Significant Features: The park provides access to the 71,100-acre Strom Thurmond Lake. The lake is ideal for fishing, boating and various other watersports. The lake has over 1,200 miles of shoreline, is the second largest lake east of the Mississippi River and among the top ten visited U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes nationwide.

  • Wildflowers: The most predominant wildflower found on the park is wisteria. This vine blooms in the spring and can be found scattered throughout the park hanging from tall pines.
