Unique Features

  • Significant Features: Located in the beautiful Santee Delta, Hampton Plantation borders Wambaw Creek, a tributary of the South Santee River that historically fed many of Hampton’s former rice fields.

  • Wildlife: Significant wildlife at Hampton Plantation State Historic Site includes diverse populations of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals representative of the coastal region including White-tail deer, turkey and American alligator.

Hampton Plantation is also home to the unique and endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and swallow-tail kite. The park’s nature trail and quiet environments offer the perfect opportunity to watch for these special species.
