Burial Sites & Cemeteries

Isaac Hayne Historical Burial Site

Francis Marion Historical Burial Site
The story of the Revolutionary War hero known as the Swamp Fox is told at the Francis Marion Historic Burial Site. Marion and others are buried in what was once a plantation cemetery.
Thomas Sumter Memorial Park
This site near Stateburg, South Carolina, commemorates General Thomas Sumter, the famous Revolutionary War partisan known as “the Gamecock.” Here visitors can see the Sumter family cemetery and the historic monument honoring General Sumter.
St. George's Church Cemetery at Colonial Dorchester
One of the remnants of the village of Dorchester at Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site is the cemetery of St. George’s Church. Much of the history of Dorchester and the nearby town of Summerville can be read in the cemetery’s gravestones.
