FISHING

  • Fishing Information : Guest enjoy fishing in Johnson Creek, the lagoon or surf fishing on the beach. Bait, equipment and other supplies can be purchased at the park store located in the campground.

  • Fishing Pier : The fishing pier, located at the southern tip of the park, extends 1,120 feet into Fripp Inlet. Pets are not allowed on the fishing pier.

  • Tackle Loaner Program : This park participates in the Tackle Loaner Program sponsored by the SC Dept. of Natural Resources. Rods and reels are available for loan at the Nature Center. The Nature Center loans out rods and reels from 9am-4:30pm during days of operation for use on the pier. Limit of four rods per group.

BOATING

  • Boating and Boat Access : Public boat access is available at the south end of the park where a boat ramp provides access to Harbor River and Fripp Inlet.

OTHER AMENITIES AND ACTIVITIES

  • Wireless Internet Access : Complimentary wifi is available at the park visitor center, lighthouse shop and the park store located in the campground.

  • Playground Equipment : Yes
  • Park Store/Gift Shop : The park store located in the campground is open year-round and offers limited grocery items, souvenirs, snacks and drinks. The Lighthouse Gift Shop located on the North Beach across from the lighthouse is open during peak season and offers snacks, gifts and souvenirs.

  • Picnic Shelters : Yes
  • Playground : A playground, for use specifically by campers, is located in the campground.

  • Swimming : Swimming is permitted in the Atlantic Ocean at your own risk. There is no designated swimming area and no lifeguards are on duty.

  • Bird Watching : The park is an ideal spot for birdwatching year round.

  • Geocaching : Geocaching is permitted. Several geocaches are located on the park. For more information visit the official geocaching website.

  • Biking : Yes
  • Other Facilities and Activities : There is a beach volleyball area available at the park and games and other items can be checked out from the visitor center.

EQUESTRIAN FACILITIES

  • Equestrian Trails : Equestrian beach access is available Dec., Jan. and Feb. A permit is required. Please contact the park for more information.

TRAILS

  • Hiking Trails : The Island Bike/Hike trail is 8 miles long and is open to both hiking and biking.

  • Walking/Nature Trails : The park walking/nature trails provide visitors an opportunity to experience the island’s natural environment. The three trails are: Campground Access trail (1 mile), Lighthouse Trail (0.3 mile) and the Marsh Boardwalk NRT (0.4 mile).

  • Biking Trails : The Island Bike/Hike trail is 8 miles long and is open to both hiking and biking.
