Frequently Asked Questions

Are pets allowed inside the cabins at Oconee State Park?

Pets are allowed in cabins 14-20 at Oconee. Pets are not allowed in any other cabin or the cabin areas. Pets are allowed in most other outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Click here to review our Pet Policy Agreement.

What are some things we can do during our stay at Oconee State Park?

Oconee offers family fun and quiet relaxation.  During the spring and summer months activities on park consist of carpet golf (putt putt), boat rentals, hiking, fishing, swimming, and old-fashioned recreational programs during our peak summer weeks.  The springtime brings Easter programs like our annual Easter Egg Hunt.  Memorial Day weekend jump starts summer and our tradition of Friday night squares dances which last through Labor Day weekend.  We host field games during the July 4th holiday with lots of decorating and family fun.

Fall offers cooler temps and attractive fall foliage.  It is time for a fire in the cabin fireplace and a nice campfire at your campsite.  Fall hikes are wonderful on the park’s hiking trails and the trails that lead to many local waterfalls.  Ask for the waterfall map when you check in.

Winter brings trout fishing and winter scenes.  A nice campfire, hot chocolate and a good book are necessities!  Oconee is one of the Civilian Conservation Corps-built parks with many historical structures, cabins, shelters for picnics and the cabin/swim lake.  The diving platform offers a high and low dive and was built by the CCC in 1940.

How many vehicles can I have at my campsite?

Standard RV sites are allowed a maximum of two vehicles at the site (this includes golf carts and trailers). All additional vehicles need to park in the designated overflow parking areas and display a valid parking pass. All vehicles must remain on paved portions of the campsite. No vehicles will be permitted to park on grass, mulch, road shoulders, adjacent sites or other locations in the campground.

Parking for tent sites 1-15 is in the main campground. Only one vehicle per site may be parked in their designated site. All additional vehicles or trailers need to park in designated overflow parking areas and display a valid parking pass.

Why do you only allow two vehicles per campsite and cabin?

For the campsites, too many vehicles and extra equipment off pads causes the soil to compact which leads to loss of vegetation, erosion and other processes that damage our natural resources. For the cabins, parking space is limited.  We allow additional vehicles for which we will issue a guest tag and direct you to other areas for parking.

What do I do with my trash?

Due to wildlife activity and to protect the park's resources from litter, secure all bagged food and trash in an enclosed vehicle or camper outside of designated trash pickup times. Campground trash is collected by park staff. Staff designated hours for pickup are mornings at 8:30 a.m. and in the afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Please station all properly contained trash by your site post for pickup only at these designated times.

Is wi-fi available at the park?

Complimentary wi-fi is available at the park office for our guests. It does not extend into the cabin areas or campground. You may access the wi-fi from the front porch or a sitting area located inside the office. Please check at the office for password information.

Do you have television in your cabins?

We do not provide televisions or satellite television in our cabins.  As a CCC park, we provide a getaway from cell phones and television.  Come with your board games, fishing poles, smores kits, a good book and enjoy.  We do provide a barrack facility that sleeps up to 16  people.  This facility has a large screen television with cable in the living area.

Is there a laundry facility on the park?

There is no laundry facility at Oconee State Park. The nearest laundry facility is in Walhalla, SC located about 15 minutes away from the park.

How many nights are required for cabin rentals?

Cabins are a two-night minimum except major holiday weekends and peak summer months.  Major holiday weekends are a three-night minimum and a selection of cabins have a seven night minimum during June, July and mid-August.

Where are the waterfalls and hiking trails?

As soon as you check in, have your questions ready for us.  We will hand out literature and direct you in your direction of interest.  The area waterfalls are most popular and we carry a nice brochure with that information.  Also there are websites you can visit to prepare you for your stay such as www.sctrails.net

When is your swim area open at Oconee State Park?

The swimming area opens Memorial Day weekend.  Days of operation are usually Tu - Su, and closed on Mondays (except for major holidays).  The swimming area opens at 11:00 a.m.

What boats are allowed in the park?

Using privately-owned boats or gasoline motors on any waters lying wholly within the boundaries of the park is not permitted.  The lakes at Oconee are small in acreage.  Park visitors can bring their own watercraft, provided that there are no gasoline motors. The park provides john boats and canoes for rental.

Are golf carts allowed on the park?

Yes, golf carts are allowed on the park. Golf carts must be driven and parked on paved or established roads and parking areas. Golf Carts are considered a vehicle. Standard RV sites are allowed a maximum of two vehicles at the site. You must be a licensed driver to operate the golf cart, and they cannot be driven after dark.  You must have all permits as required by the SCDMV.

Do you allow generators?

Generators are not allowed.
