  • Snakes of South Carolina

    Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park to find out more about the fascinating lives of snakes. Participants will uncover local myths associated with our slithering friends and discover what makes them so helpful to humans and the environment. We will learn some cool facts about these amazing reptiles and how to recognize the six venomous snakes in the Palmetto State.   • First Ladies' Walk for Life...Steps Against Breast Cancer

    Join South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford and City of Columbia First Lady Beth Coble at the 18th Annual First Ladies’ Walk for Life…Steps Against Breast Cancer event that will be held Saturday, October 4 at Finlay Park in Columbia. Registration is at 8am, and the Walk begins at 9am. Proceeds from Walk for Life will benefit Palmetto Health South Carolina Comprehensive Breast Center.

    Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park as we discover the secret lives of these avian neighbors, uncover their nocturnal habits and unveil their amazing adaptations during this night hike for families!   • Poinsett Palmetto Trail Hike

    Take a hike with a ranger on the beautiful High Hills of Santee section of the Palmetto Trail. Learn about the rich history that surrounds this park that dates back to the time of the Revolutionary War and the time of Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox." See the landscape beauty that is found at Poinsett from mountainous terrain to the swampy bogs of the South Carolina lowlands. Historical buildings and structures, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, are also found at Poinsett State Park. The hike will consist of a 2.5 mile section of the Palmetto Trail followed by refreshments including tea, coffee and doughnuts in the historical Tea Room at the park office. The hike will begin at 10:00 from the park office. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle.

  • Creatures of the Night

    Hoot hoot hoot...whinny...are just some of the sounds that come out of Lee's forested wetlands and pine forests as the sun sets over the western horizon. Few get a chance to see or hear these animals in the wild. Join us for an after dark walk at the park as we seek out Lee's crepuscular and nocturnal wildlife. We'll search for owls and other birds, amphibians, and bats. Bring a flashlight and wear long pants. This is a 1 mile nature hike. Registration required.   • History Hayride

    Come learn about Lee's history during a tractor-pulled hayride around the park's Loop Road. Please wear long pants and jacket. Bring a water bottle along. We will be stopping at one of the park's artesian wells for a drink. Adults must accompany children 17 and younger. Pre-registration is required.   • Sesqui Trails Day

    Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park to experience the many trails Sesqui has to offer. Whether you like to mountain bike, hike or just enjoy a leisurely nature walk, there is a trail just for you! Use the trails on your own anytime throughout the day, or attend one of the many guided trail programs, including guided moutain biking programs for beginners and advanced riders, guided hikes on our 2-mile hiking trail, and guided nature walks on our half mile nature trail.
