  • Snakes of South Carolina

    Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park to find out more about the fascinating lives of snakes. Participants will uncover local myths associated with our slithering friends and discover what makes them so helpful to humans and the environment. We will learn some cool facts about these amazing reptiles and how to recognize the six venomous snakes in the Palmetto State.   • The South Carolina Rangers

    The Revolutionary War in the Carolina Backcountry was largely fought by loosley organized militias that used their experience in frontier fighting to slow the British advance. Join us at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site as we look more closely into the role of these militias during the conflict on the South Carolina frontier. This event will feature the South Carolina Rangers re-enactment unit portraying the lifestyle, arms, equipment and strategy used by the militia in battles like the Battle of Musgrove's Mill.

  • First Ladies' Walk for Life...Steps Against Breast Cancer

    Join South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford and City of Columbia First Lady Beth Coble at the 18th Annual First Ladies’ Walk for Life…Steps Against Breast Cancer event that will be held Saturday, October 4 at Finlay Park in Columbia. Registration is at 8am, and the Walk begins at 9am. Proceeds from Walk for Life will benefit Palmetto Health South Carolina Comprehensive Breast Center.

  • Archaeology Day at Musgrove's Mill

    Have you ever wondered how archaeologists find and identify artifacts from American Revolutionary War battlefields like Musgrove's Mill? Visit Musgrove Mill State Historic Site to learn about the methods used and what studies have been done at the site to shed light on this important battle. Project archaeologists will be on-site showing some of the artifacts that have been found and discussing how they found and identified the artifacts. Tours of the areas where some of the archaeological projects have been performed will be offered throughout the day. Bring the kids and let them participate in some hands-on activities as they "dig" for artifacts.

  • Sesqui Trails Day

    Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park to experience the many trails Sesqui has to offer. Whether you like to mountain bike, hike or just enjoy a leisurely nature walk, there is a trail just for you! Use the trails on your own anytime throughout the day, or attend one of the many guided trail programs, including guided moutain biking programs for beginners and advanced riders, guided hikes on our 2-mile hiking trail, and guided nature walks on our half mile nature trail.   • Battle Of Blackstock's Anniversary Celebration

    On November 20, 1780, General Thomas Sumter and his men fought Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton and a small, but well trained force of British soldiers at the Blackstock's Plantation in modern-day Union County. On Saturday, November 22, 2008, Musgrove Mill State Historic Site will be presenting the Battle of Blackstock's Anniversary Celebration. The event will feature an interpretive talk on the Battle of Blackstock's and its significance, a Ranger-led tour of the battlefield, a period firing salute, and commemorations by the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution. The event will be held at 1:00 pm at Blackstock Battlefield Historic Site.   • The Battle By Candlelight

    Experience Musgrove Mill State Historic Site in an entirely different way - in the dark! The event will feature candle-lit tours of the Musgrove Mill battlefield, which will include presentations by historians in period-correct clothing and uniforms telling the story of the Battle of Musgrove's Mill from the Patriot and British point of view.
