Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park to find out more about the fascinating lives of snakes. Participants will uncover local myths associated with our slithering friends and discover what makes them so helpful to humans and the environment. We will learn some cool facts about these amazing reptiles and how to recognize the six venomous snakes in the Palmetto State. On November 20, 1780, General Thomas Sumter and his men fought Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton and a small, but well trained force of British soldiers at the Blackstock's Plantation in modern-day Union County. On Saturday, November 21, 2009, Musgrove Mill State Historic Site will be presenting the Battle of Blackstock's Anniversary Celebration. The event will feature an interpretive talk on the Battle of Blackstock's and its significance, a Ranger-led tour of the battlefield, a period firing salute, and commemorations by the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution. The event will be held at 1:00 pm at Blackstock Battlefield Historic Site. Experience Musgrove Mill State Historic Site in an entirely different way - in the dark! The event will feature candle-lit tours of the Musgrove Mill battlefield, which will include presentations by historians in period-correct clothing and uniforms telling the story of the Battle of Musgrove's Mill from the Patriot and British point of view.

In the summer of 1780 a group of roughly 300 loyalist partisans and 200 British Provincials set up camp at the home of Edward Musgrove on the Enoree River. Come join us at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site for a Living History Campout and experience a little bit of what life was like for the soldiers of the American Revolution. Re-enactors will be on hand to give fire starting, cooking, and even weapons demonstrations. A guided hike of the Home and Mill Site, and stories around the camp fire will also be part of the program.
Visitors will be asked to bring all of their own camping materials. Typical camping stuffs include tents, sleeping bags, food, cooking supplies, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and suitable clothing. Bathroom facilities, camp grills, and picnic tables will be made available throughout the durations of the program.

Games of many sorts and varieties were one way that they chose to amuse themselves during encampments. Come out to Musgrove Mill State Historic Site this weekend and participate in or just learn about the games played during the Revolutionary War.

History will be made accessible to children at this Musgrove Mill State Historic Site event. Activities will include quill pen writing, cartridge rolling, weapons demonstrations, bullet making, and guided hikes.
The morning program is recommended for children ages 5-10 and the afternoon program is recommended for children ages 7-13.

This two-day event features re-enactors from all over the southeast portraying military and civilian life during the American Revolution. The event will feature weapons and tactics demonstrations, cooking, camp life, and many other aspects of life during America's infancy. The DAR and SAR will perform a commemoration on the first day of the event. This is a great opportunity to experience the Revolutionary War in one of the places where it actually happened.

Not all American settlers fought for their independence from Great Britain. Many remained loyal to their country and took up arms against their neighbors. Join us at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site to learn about these Loyalists and their role in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution. The event will feature living history demonstrations that show how Loyalists were recruited and trained in the British Army, and will include weapons and tactics demonstration used by the British during the Revolutionary War in the Carolina Backcountry.
