Sunrift Adventures, in partnership with Paris Mountain State Park, will provide kayak and canoe demonstrations, plus, for $2.00 per person you may try out the boats. Come glide on the waters of Lake Placid in the latest canoes and kayaks, and speak to manufacturer representatives. Over 100 boats will be on hand. Mini-instructional classes available.

Much took place to shape the legacy of Table Rock before and after the land became a state park. The Roper property is a piece of that history. Stop by to walk the grounds and talk to a couple of local residents as they share some insights and stories about the Roper family and their land, including the old house built in 1856. Aspects of Camp Oolenoy, which began as a nature camp for school children in the early 50's, will also be interpreted.

Many of Paris Mountain's animals are adapted to life in or near water. Help look for salamanders, frogs, ducks, aquatic insects, as well as signs of our resident beaver population, on this unusual scavenger hunt. June through August on Friday mornings at 10 a.m., families will be led on a nature hike, looking for animals and their habitats in or near water. Part of the program will be spent in the creek using nets, so bring or wear water shoes! Some finds will be brought back to the lab for an up-close look under the park microscope, before being returned to their home. The program fee is $5.00 per person. Admission fee is waived. Celebrate National Trails Day with a hike in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. We will hike approximately 4.7 miles along Coldspring Branch and Bill Kimball trails. This is a moderate-to-strenuous hike through a mix of forest types. Bring lunch, water and wear good hiking boots. Limited to ages 13 through adult.

Practice your observation skills as we hike easy to moderate Mountain Creek Trail 3 miles up and back, 'reading stories told by the woods. It's the 1880s and a growing Greenville needs a water supply. Fortunately, Greenville has the water coming down through the forests of Paris Mountain. Join Interpretive Ranger Cathy Taylor in this interactive walk around Lake Placid, using maps, timelines, and a population game involving sponges and water, to figure out how Paris Mountain's water helped Greenville grow. This is a program created for 8th grade classes, but all history seekers are invited to this 4th Saturday program.

Oconee State Park will celebrate the 75th anniversary of South Carolina State Parks by having a bluegrass band and square dance. The Dixie Bluegrass Boys will perform and a local clogging group will perform traditional dance routines. The general public is welcome to come and square dance or just watch and enjoy the festivities.

In cooperation with Beach Sweep/River Sweep of South Carolina, take part in this effort to keep our wetlands beautiful and safe for people and wildlife. At Table Rock, we will spend the morning removing litter from the shores of Lake Pinnacle and Lake Oolenoy. Let's do our part in helping our resources become cleaner and more attractive. Bring gloves and footwear that can get wet and muddy. This program is designed for ages 10 and above. An adult must accompany ages 17 and under.

After a hot summer, and the first week of autumn is a great time to get out to see what the fall migration is sending our way. We will look for various warblers and other songbirds that we have not seen since last spring . The outing will be led by the Park Naturalist and members of the Greenville County Bird Club will be on hand to enjoy a morning of fall birding as we observe a variety of habitats.

Every season offers its own unique experience on the trails. Pinnacle Mountain is a strenuous hike with plenty of beauty to behold. This round trip hike of over 8 miles will lead us through the hardwood forest past several streams to a scenic lunch stop on an outcrop overlook. Fall will be nearing its peak and we'll take it all in along the way.

Travel back in time to the years immediately following the American Revolution when Oconee Station was a frontier outpost. Learn what life was like for the frontiersmen of this bygone era. This program will include a variety of period-related activities such as rope making, cooking and black powder demonstrations.

Forest colors should be at their peak and there is no better time to enjoy autumn's beauty. This guided walk follows a section of an old CCC trail along Pinnacle Lake. Insights about seasonal changes within the forest ecosystem will be shared along the trail.

At Hiking Essetials, we discuss equipment, hiking tips, tecniques and planning steps to make your next hike more enjoyable. We will review different types of hiking equipment needed for day hiking trips and overnight backpacking adventures. In support of the nation-wide Great Backyard Bird Count, observations will be made at Table Rock. The information we gather will contribute to a broad study by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology of winter bird populations in North America. Participants can enjoy a morning of birdwatching as we seek out a variety of species in wooded, weedy, and wetland habitats.

A walk around Lake Placid reveals many clues to the past, from geological history to the story behind the dam built in 1898 to the structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
