Join the Interpretive Ranger on a hike to Mountain Lake and beyond, up and over the mountain, as we travel the entire Sulphur Springs Trail. Late fall is a great time to enjoy the brilliance of red maples, while cooler temperatures make this moderate to strenuous 3.5 mile hike a pleasantly challenging experience. Be an extra early riser and take a unique moonlit hike to the top of Table Rock. After experiencing the nocturnal aspects of the forest we will enjoy the pre-dawn sky from the outcrop as we anticipate the sunrise. Table Rock State Park

In South Carolina, people celebrate Arbor Day on the first Saturday in December. Come help plant trees in Paris Mountain State Park, and focus on the many benefits provided by the trees around us. In support of the nation-wide Great Backyard Bird Count, observations will be made at Table Rock. The information we gather will contribute to a broad study by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology of winter bird populations in North America. Participants can enjoy a morning of birdwatching as we seek out a variety of species in wooded, weedy, and wetland habitats. Table Rock State Park

A walk around Lake Placid reveals many clues to the past, from geological history to the story behind the dam built in 1898 to the structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Even fallen trees have a story to tell of past times at Paris Mountain State Park, revealed in their rings. Try to find all the clues on your scavenger hunt sheet on this 1-mile walk around Lake Placid and nearby paths. Program fee is $5. per person. Admission fee is waived. Registration required. We'll take Brissy Ridge Trail and hike to lofty views of the forest watershed slowly filtering down, down into streams of life and to Buckhorn Lake in the distance. Fee is $8. per person. To butterflies, hummingbirds and other animals, they bring a source of food after a long winter and an opportunity for plants to reproduce. Table Rock is a designated Important Bird Area in South Carolina and a variety of birds can be seen and heard among wooded, weedy, and wetland habitats. Many of Paris Mountain's animals are adapted to life in or near water. Help look for salamanders, frogs, ducks, aquatic insects, as well as signs of our resident beaver population, on this unusual scavenger hunt. We will look under logs, inspect beaver tooth marks, and search for footprints around the lake, seeing how many signs of animals on our scavenger hunt sheet we can find. The program fee is $5.00.
