  • Birding

    Birding is now one of the top outdoor recreational activities in the U.S. If you've ever wondered what all the fuss is about, this is the perfect way to find out! Designed for the beginning birder, you will start off in a classroom setting where you will learn the basic essentials of birding: how to get the most out of your binoculars, how to use a field guide, and where to start looking for birds. Afterwards, you will get a chance to try out your newly acquired skills during a trip out on the park led by noted birders, Phil and Sharon Turner. Experienced birders are welcome to join the field portion of the program at 11 am at the Education Center.

  • Feeding Frenzy

    Get up close and personal with the animals at the Education Center! Take part in feeding a sting ray and other sea creatures. Feedings take place Tuesday through Sunday at 11 am.

    Take a fascinating tour of the winter home of Anna and Archer Huntington with a docent from the Friends of Huntington Beach State Park. Along the way, you will discover how this home helped a community through tough years, inspired art and eventually became a National Historic Landmark.

    Search for seashells and other beach bounty during this guided walk on one of the best shelling beaches in the Grand Strand. Along the way, we'll discover the fascinating lives of the animals that make seashells, the importance of sand dunes, tide cycles, and how to be a responsible beachcomber.

  • Tale of the Whale

    Learn how to eat like a whale, hear what whales sound like, find out how big whales and dolphins are, what species are found off our coast, and much more. Appropriate for ages 6 and up.

    Learn about snakes and their cold-blooded kin in this audio-visual presentation, then get a chance to touch some!

  • Coastal Kayaking

    Enjoy a two-hour guided tour of the salt marsh. Excellent for beginners, participants need to reserve a spot at the Education Center (843-235-8755) by 4:00 pm Sunday prior to the program. Under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and lace-up shoes that can get wet and muddy. Fee: $35/ person. Meet at the Education Center, then caravan to Oyster Landing. (2 hrs.)

  • Spineless Wonders

    Come get aquainted with some of the wierdest animals in the ocean as we discover that there's more to life than a backbone! A variety of live creatures will be on display in the Wet Lab, so be prepared for a real hands-on experience.

    Huntington Beach State Park is considered by many to be the best birding spot in South Carolina. Come see why for yourself! Local birders, Phil and Sharon Turner, will lead a walk along the causeway to search the freshwater pond and salt marsh for a variety of birds. Depending on the season, we might observe herons, egrets, rails, woodstorks, shorebirds, ducks, bald eagles and more!

    It's spring, the time of renewal and awakenings. Birds have returned to the maritime forest of Myrtle Beach State Park to build new nests and raise a new generation. Take a relaxing half-mile walk with the park naturalist to check bird houses. See who's nesting and if any eggs have been laid. We may even get to see hatchlings. Wear close toed shoes.

  • Park Palooza!

    Get outside and have some fun while participating in an array of activities designed for the entire family! Various programs will run continously from 10 am to 3 pm. Throw a cast net, check for nesting birds, crawl through a shrimp net, learn to cook while camping, learn about earth friendly products, meet some reptiles, plant some seeds, meet some live sea creatures, learn to build a campfire, tie knots, learn to geocache, join in a recycle relay, plant a tree and much more!     Many people love to come and enjoy the beauty of the beach. Unfortunately, more people often means more pollution. Become a part of the solution and join volunteers around the country, state, and nation in this annual event as we band together to "sweep" our beaches clean. In order to make it more fun, prizes will be awarded for certain categories and a raffle drawing will be held for all participants. Drinks will be provided. Appropriate for all ages.

  • Take a Kid Fishing

    Have some fun and spend some quality time with your youngster fishing from the Myrtle Beach State Park Fishing Pier. All piers in the Grand Strand will be participating in this event sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and awards will be presented at each pier in some various "fishy" categories! If you don't have your own fishing gear, all needed equipment will be provided. Space is limited and pre-registration is required, so sign up early! Registration begins mid September.

    Come on out and do your part to help make Myrtle Beach State Park a better place for all! The park needs volunteers for a variety of projects including: trail maintenance, picnic table placement, litter removal, and moving mulch. Drinks will be provided.
