In cooperation with Beach Sweep/River Sweep of South Carolina, take part in this effort to keep our wetlands beautiful and safe for people and wildlife. At Table Rock, we will spend the morning removing litter from the shores of Lake Pinnacle and Lake Oolenoy. Let's do our part in helping our resources become cleaner and more attractive. Bring gloves and footwear that can get wet and muddy. This program is designed for ages 10 and above. An adult must accompany ages 17 and under.

Hawk Migration is one of natures most spectacular events. Each year thousands of hawks migrate south for the winter. These fascinating creatures make use of the prevailing wind currents as warm air from the valley below mixes with the cool air on the ridge of Caesars Head. The overlook provides a great opportunity to witness this annual event. Join us and learn about hawk migration and maybe witness part of this movement. Bring binoculars. Designed for ages 15 and older.

After a hot summer, the first week of autumn is a great time to get out to see what the fall migration is sending our way. We will look for various warblers and other songbirds that we have not seen since last spring . Get out and enjoy a fall morning of birding as we observe a variety of habitats.

Every season offers its own unique experience on the trails. Pinnacle Mountain is a strenuous hike with plenty of beauty to behold. This round trip hike of over 8 miles will lead us through the hardwood forest past several streams to a scenic lunch stop on an outcrop overlook. Fall will be nearing its peak and we'll take it all in along the way.

Travel back in time to the years immediately following the American Revolution when Oconee Station was a frontier outpost. Learn what life was like for the frontiersmen of this bygone era. This program will include a variety of period-related activities such as rope making, cooking and black powder demonstrations.

Shorter days and cooler temperatures set the stage for the annual changes from summers green to the brilliant colors of fall. Come enjoy the mountains blaze of color and spectacular views of Raven Cliff Falls on this moderately strenuos hike. Bring lunch, drink and wear hiking boots.

Who were the first people in our area? Marie Burgess, naturalist and environmental historian from Furman Univerisity, will give an overview of the social and environmental history of the Cherokee people.

Take a leisurely walk to Mountain Lake and feast your eyes on the colors of fall refected in calm water. The water music of Mountain Creek will accompany us along the way as we identify leaves and investigate the reasons for their colors.

Forest colors should be at their peak and there is no better time to enjoy autumn's beauty. This guided walk follows a section of an old CCC trail along Pinnacle Lake. Insights about seasonal changes within the forest ecosystem will be shared along the trail.

As the peak of fall nears, hike to the top of Stool Mountain to enjoy the richness of the season. Great views and fascinating geology are included in this unique trip which is approximately 4 miles round trip with some off-trail hiking.

At Hiking Essetials, we discuss equipment, hiking tips, techniques and planning steps to make your next hike more enjoyable. We will review different types of hiking equipment needed for day hiking trips and overnight backpacking adventures. All participants are encouraged to hike our 1 ½ mile Natural Bridge Trail or our 4 mile Raven Rock Trail.

Join park rangers on a slow boat cruise around the perimeter of beautiful Lake Jocassee in hopes of spotting majestic bald eagles. January is nesting season for bald eagles. We could see eagles engaged in nest building or improvements, already sitting on eggs, or even feeding forays.
Lake Jocassee is a protected wilderness area and home to some of the state's most impressive wildlife including black bears and bald eagles, so who knows what we might see. Experience seeing our nation's symbol of freedom in the stunning backdrop of the Jocassee Gorges region!
This program is designed for adults (16 and older). Cold weather is expected and participants will be on a pontoon boat for extended time periods. Plan appropriately.

In support of the nation-wide Great Backyard Bird Count, observations will be made at Table Rock. The information we gather will contribute to a broad study by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology of winter bird populations in North America. Participants can enjoy a morning of birdwatching as we seek out a variety of species in wooded, weedy, and wetland habitats.

A walk around Lake Placid reveals many clues to the past, from geological history to the story behind the dam built in 1898 to the structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Even fallen trees have a story to tell of past times at Paris Mountain State Park, revealed in their rings. Try to find all the clues on your scavenger hunt sheet on this 1-mile walk around Lake Placid and nearby paths. Program fee is $5. per person. Admission fee is waived. Registration required. We'll take Brissy Ridge Trail and hike to lofty views of the forest watershed slowly filtering down, down into streams of life and to Buckhorn Lake in the distance. Fee is $8. per person. Table Rock is a designated Important Bird Area in South Carolina and a variety of birds can be seen and heard among wooded, weedy, and wetland habitats. During this morning walk common and uncommon species will be identified by means of prominent field marks, vocalizations, and other behaviors.

We will look under logs, inspect beaver tooth marks, and search for footprints around the lake, seeing how many signs of animals on our scavenger hunt sheet we can find. The program fee is $5.00.
