Sea Turtle Night Walks

At Edisto Beach State Park

BOOK NOW

Edisto Beach State Park is one of the few areas in SC that is permitted by SCDNR to lead educational, nesting sea turtle, night walks. Due to the program duration, time of night, and difficulty of terrain, these walks are not recommended for children younger than 11 years old. Advanced registration is required, register now by clicking the "Book Now" button.

Our program explores the life cycle of the sea turtle, challenges to conservation, and how you can help save our state reptile. Following a 30-minute presentation, participants will go on a guided nighttime beach walk for a chance to witness a nesting loggerhead sea turtle. Turtle safe red flashlights will be provided. Appearance of a loggerhead is not guaranteed.

Participants should arrive around 8:45. The gates may be locked but a staff member will open it just before the program time. Please show your receipt when you enter. The beach walk could be up to 3 miles long and it could go past midnight depending on if a sea turtle is seen.

The walk will take place regardless of the tide level. Any form of photography is not permitted. The walk will go on if there is rain; the program may be canceled if there is lightning in the vicinity. No refunds. If space is available in another program that week we will try to reschedule you.

Please note: due to the duration, time of night, and difficulty of terrain, these walks are not recommended for children younger than 11 years old. The age limit is strictly enforced. No military or senior discount offered.

There are Night Walk Survivor shirts available at the Environmental Learning Center and Camp Exchange for a $20 donation. If you would like to prepurchase the shirt, please call the Environmental Learning Center at 843-869-4430.
