Causeway Wildlife

Archer and Anna Huntington began managing their newly acquired land in the 1930's to support the maximum diversity of wildlife possible. One of the their main projects to accomplish this goal was the creation of a freshwater marsh adjacent to what is now the causeway that carries visitors into the park. Come find out how the S.C. Sate Park Service continues this legacy of stewardship during this leisurely walk that provides a great opportunity to compare and contrast two unique wetland habitats: freshwater marshes and salt marshes. Along the way, you may have a chance to observe alligators, wading birds, waterfowl, minks, fiddler crabs, and more.
