The African-American Experience at Redcliffe

African Americans played a significant role in the history of Redcliffe, Silver Bluff, Cathwood and Cowden Plantations from their forced labor as enslaved workers in the 19th century to their roles as paid employees in the mid-20th century. The African-American Experience explores various topics in the lives and deaths, contributions and achievements of the numerous African-American families who helped shape Redcliffe, many of whom continue to be an important part of the local community. The program includes tours of the historic slave quarters and mansion. Topics will vary but could include discussions of slave resistance, diet and nutrition, family life, work, genealogy and more.
