Trails

Nature Loop Trail

Length: 0.5 miles

Type: Hiking Trail

Difficulty: Easy

Description: The Nature Loop Trail has two trailheads: one near the picnic shelter and another near the rose gardens. The trail is unpaved, shaded by forest, and has a roughly 50-foot  change in elevation. Sights to look for include an old stand of hickory trees (some of which date to the late 1700s and early 1800s), historic roadbeds, and the preserved ruins of a tenant house. Waysides mark significant sites along the trail.

Tyger River Spur Trail

Length: 0.5 miles

Type: Hiking Trail

Difficulty: Easy, but steep at the bottom

Description: The trailhead for the Tyger River Spur Trail can be accessed via the Nature Loop Trail. The trail runs 0.5 miles out to the Tyger River. It is unpaved, shaded by forest, and has a roughly 100-foot change in elevation. Sights to look for include large gullies where cotton fields from the 1800s and early 1900s have eroded the soil.

Note: The last tenth mile of the Tyger River Spur Trail is located on the river banks and may be inaccessible if the Tyger River has flooded.
