A Message From The Director
Welcome to the new and improved e-newsletter from the South Carolina State Park Service! And please help us celebrate the year long observance of the 75th anniversary of your state parks.
Traditionally, the 75th anniversary is marked by diamonds, and that’s what South Carolina’s state parks have been over the years – a most precious gem with many facets.
Plucked from eroded, abandoned farmlands, the first state parks were hewn by the men of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s to both restore the environment and provide the public a place to play.
Historic sites and unique natural areas in danger of being lost forever were added to the mission of stewardship over the years, and now South Carolinians can be proud of their ownership of one of the most diverse and user-friendly state park systems in the country.
This new electronic newsletter is part of that “user-friendliness.” Each issue will share stories of the people who work at these special places, and about these precious resources themselves. Interactive games, photo contests and more are here to engage visitors of all ages, both in this virtual world and at the parks themselves.
And, of course, we’ll keep you up to date on 75th anniversary and other activities at each of the parks, and offer you the latest “hot deals” on cabins, camping and other activities that you, your family and friends can enjoy at the 47 facilities that comprise the South Carolina State Park Service.
Sincerely,
Chad Prosser
