The Croft Passage of the Palmetto Trail Opens
Croft State Natural Area and the Palmetto Conservation Foundation have teamed up to bring visitors to the upstate and the park's a long-awaited recreational resource, the Croft Passage of the Palmetto Trail.
The Croft Passage – A Multi-Use Trail
The Croft Passage, a multi-use trail, stretches roughly 15 to 20 miles across Croft State Natural Area and is set to open on June 7, 2008, National Trails Day. The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10am at the park.
This trail is one of the newest additions to approximately 40 miles of trail at Croft. The trail brings forth new recreational opportunities to hikers, mountain bikers and horse back riders in the Upstate.
Currently, the trail boasts the largest bridge of its kind in the South Carolina State Park Service. The Advance America Bridge, which is made of fiberglass, spans 65 feet long and rises 12 feet above the beautiful Fairforest Creek that runs through the park.
Easy to Moderate Hiking
This passage of the Palmetto Trail is a fairly easy-to-moderate hike that anyone should be able to enjoy. The trail will take you through hardwood forests and wildlife such as deer and turkey may be viewed along the way. The trail also crosses two scenic upstate streams, Fairforest Creek and Kelsey Creek.
The Palmetto trail is an excellent recreational resource opportunity because it provides access to other areas of the park and brings the visitor closer to the natural resources that we protect and conserve.
Come out and play with us here at Croft State Natural Area and enjoy the new Croft Passage of the Palmetto Trail.
