Lily Fest

Landsford Canal State Park is home to the world’s largest population of Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies. These beautiful flowers bloom each year along the Catawba River and can be viewed from the park from May through mid-June. A 1.5-mile, round trip hike down the Canal Trail takes you to an overlook where the spider lilies can be best viewed.

LILY FEST WAS HELD MAY 19 -- however, please check here for updates on how the lilies are blooming, river levels and more.  See updates below.

Check back each week for a Lily Watch Update and information on when you can expect peak lily viewing at Landsford.  Also, take a look at our video that tells you more about the Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies.

May 20, 2013 Lily Watch Update

We had a few dozen blooms for Lily Fest yesterday, with new flowers coming out daily and numbers slowly increasing.  Blooms should continue to increase until the first week in June.  This should be "peak" this year.  We won't see the typical blanket of white blooms as we would in a "normal" year, but the blooms will be more in clusters.  Please check back for more updates as things progress.

May 16, 2013 Lily Watch Update

The river should be back to normal levels this weekend for Lily Fest.  We hope to see a few blooms in a couple of days, but best viewing still looks a couple of weeks out with end of May, first of June being the best time to see the lilies in bloom.  Please check back for further updates or contact the park for more specific information.

May 13, 2013 Lily Watch Update

Flood waters have subsided and the lilies should start recovering with blooms expected in a few days. Best viewing times will probably be the last of May and first of June. Boating is open, but boaters should be aware of Lake Wylie's generation schedule and present water levels.

May 8, 2013 Lily Watch Update

The Catawba River is currently in flood stage.  Water should recede by this weekend.  You cannot see the lilies at this time, as they are under water.  Please check back later this week or first of next for conditions and further reports.
